A Barrington Police officer ordered a vehicle over to the side of the road at about 7:30 p.m. on Monday, April 8, after noticing that it had a taillight out.
The officer approached the driver's side window and spoke to the motorist. The officer also noticed the moped in the back of the pickup truck.
The officer checked the VIN number for the moped and discovered that the vehicle had been reported stolen out of New Haven, Conn. in April 2015.
Police charged the motorist, Kevin Erickson Soares, 23, of Pawtucket, with receiving stolen goods-misdemeanor. Mr. Soares said he purchased the moped from a Bristol resident and had no idea the moped had been reported stolen.
