A Samoset Road resident's dog was hit and killed on Massasoit Avenue by a white Chevy Avalanche pickup truck at about 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15.

A witness told police the dog was running loose along Massasoit Avenue. A nearby resident tried to slow traffic while attempting to catch the dog.

A witness told police the white pickup truck came down Massasoit Avenue and was unable to stop when the dog ran out in front of it. After striking the dog, the vehicle stopped initially, but then sped off.

People were not able to record the truck's license plate. The dog, a white labrador mix, died at the scene.
