Barrington police stopped a vehicle at 4 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 12, after the car conducted an illegal U-turn on Middle Highway.
The officer approached the driver's side window and questioned the driver, a 17-year-old Barrington boy. Initially, the teenager said he had a driver's license, but later admitted that he did not. (There was another 17-year-old boy in the passenger seat.)
Police called the boy's mother, who said she had no idea her son had taken her car.
Police later charged the driver of the vehicle with driving without consent of the owner.
