PORTSMOUTH — Two Portsmouth High School relay records were broken during the state indoor high school track and field championships at the Providence Career and Technical Academy Saturday.

The boys 4x400-meter relay team of Colt Nichols, Mike Chisholm, Isaac Fox and Ethan Shea set a new school record with a time of 3:36.77, good enough for fifth place overall.

The same team also ran in the 4x200-meter relay, finishing 11th with a time of 1:37.72. Nichols also ran the 55-meter hurdles and placed 17th.

In other results for the boys, Portsmouth’s Martin Lasky took sixth place in the pole vault with a leap of 9 feet. As a team, the boys finished in a tie for 19th place overall.

The lady Patriots finished in 12th place in team standings.

In the 4x800-relay event, the PHS girls’ team of Elizabeth Sullivan, Sofia White, Nikki Merrill and Grace Cavanagh came in second place and set a new school record with a time of 9:43.40.

Merrill also fared well in the 600-meter run, coming in fourth place with a time of 1:40.83.
