Qualifies for Saturday’s New England Championship

PORTSMOUTH — Portsmouth High School’s Colt Nichols continued his success at the 300-meter intermediate hurdles, winning the event at the state championship meet at Brown University on Saturday.

Nichols clocked a time of 39.23 in winning the event. He also took fourth place in the 110-meter high hurdles in a time of 15.48.

The PHS boys finished in 11th place as a team, with Hendricken  taking the crown.

Among the girls, Portsmouth High’s 4x800-meter relay team took third place with a time of 9:30.3. 

Nikki Merrill came in sixth in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:01.79.

As a team, the lady Patriots came in 20th place, with the Smithfield Sentinels on top.

New Englands Saturday

Nicholas qualified to compete in both hurdles events at the New England Championship at Willow Brook Park, New Britain, Conn., on Saturday, June 11.

Also competing in that meet will be the Patriots’ Ethan Shea and Mike Chisholm in the 400-meter run, as well as the girls’ 4x800-meter relay team.
