PORTSMOUTH — The Portsmouth High School varsity boys’ soccer team headed into halftime with a seemingly comfortable 3-0 lead over Barrington Wednesday night, but had to fight until the end to prevent an Eagles’ comeback win.
Despite being shut out offensively in the second half, the Patriots held on for the 3-2 victory in the game, the Division I opener for both squads.
Portsmouth scored its first goal four minutes in, when Ken Armijo took Chris Stack’s long throw-in and headed it into the goal.
Eight minutes later, Matt Marion snuck a ball into the left post. Shortly before halftime, Connor Richardson booted a rebound into the next to make it 3-0.
Barrington got on the board six minutes into the second half, when Harrison Brown put one in the net. Just a few minutes before the final whistle sounded, the Eagles’ Louis Bachetti scored to pull Barrington to within one.
