PORTSMOUTH — Here are some highlights from the Portsmouth Police reports from over the past week.
Tuesday, Jan. 19
Nicole B. Bessette, 34, of 383 Middle Road, was charged with domestic assault (second offense) and domestic refusal to relinquish a telephone following an argument with a man at her home, police said. Ms. Bessette was uncooperative and refused to explain what happened, according to police.
Saturday, Jan. 23
James R. Ferreira, 59, of 33 Founders Ave., Portsmouth, was charged with driving while intoxicated (first offense) following a two-vehicle accident on West Main Road near Bradford Avenue around noon. The operator of a Prius told police that a pickup truck driven by Mr. Ferreira took a left turn from Bradford Avenue onto West Main Road and obstructed his lane of travel. The front bumper of the Prius struck the driver’s side fender of the truck, police said. Mr. Ferreira didn’t have his headlights on as required during a snowstorm, police said. A woman in the Prius complained of arm pain and was transported to Newport Hospital for treatment.
Sunday, Jan. 24
Troy D. Butler, 41, of 89 Old Fort Road, Newport, was arrested shortly before 6 a.m. on a bench warrant issued from Second District Court. The arrest took place shortly after police found a woman running along East Main Road near Bank of Newport. She told police she was at her home sleeping and was woken up by a man who “busted out” of her bedroom closet with a large canine and held her at gunpoint. Police found Mr. Butler at the house looking for the woman, whom he described as his girlfriend. There was no evidence of any firearms, police said. The woman, who told police she recently spent time at Newport Hospital for psychological reasons, was transported back to the hospital for a mental health evaluation.
