PORTSMOUTH — The Portsmouth Middle School unified basketball team won its final game of the regular season Thursday, coming from behind to defeat Barrington at home, 47-40.
Portsmouth was down by double digits in the first half before clawing back to tighten the score. Patrick Kiely hit a buzzer-beater at halftime to tie the score at 22.
The second half was a back-and-forth affair before Portsmouth pulled away near the end.
Henry Banks hit a 3-pointer at 3:30 minutes left to make it 43-38.
The top scorers for Portsmouth were Jack Ross, Bia Butcher and Zach Pierce, who each had 10 points.
For Barrington, Colton Patten and Greg Despins each scored 10 points.
PHS in championship game
In other unified basketball action, the Portsmouth High School team also won Thursday, beating Toll Gate in a playoff semifinal thriller that went into overtime, 35-31.
The Patriots were down by 13 points in the second half before storming back for the win.
PHS now advances to the championship game against Chariho in a rematch of last year’s title game. It will be played at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 9, at Bishop Hendricken High School, 2615 Warwick Ave., Warwick.
Opening ceremonies begin at 9 a.m.
