The snow whipped into Bristol mid-morning creating white-out conditions for residents throughout the East Bay. The snow came in hard and fast, making for miserable driving.

UPDATE: Power was restored to many Portsmouth homes shortly before 4 p.m., according to reports by many residents.PORTSMOUTH — Thursday's storm has brought difficult travel and a major power outage to Portsmouth.

National Grid is reporting that about 8,000 customers out of 46,700 served are affected on Aquidneck Island.

National Grid estimated that power wouldn't be restored until 11 p.m., according to its website, although many residents were reporting they had electricity back shortly before 4 p.m.

The Portsmouth Fire Department has asked residents not to call the fire station with reports of power outages.

From Portsmouth Police Facebook comes this travel advisory:
"Vehicles are having an extremely difficult time getting up Raytheon Hill on West Main Road. Several dozen vehicles have gotten stuck on the roadways throughout town. A tractor trailer has also gotten stuck on the Route 24 south offramp onto West Main Road causing at least 15 vehicles backed up on the highway. Vehicles are also stuck on Turkey Hill/West Main Road. We are working with RIDOT to get these vehicles moving ASAP. Please stay off the roadways as travelling has become difficult!"
