Portsmouth Police find 3 unconscious people in car stopped at light

PORTSMOUTH — A New Bedford woman was charged with driving while intoxicated last week after a police officer found her and two other occupants unconscious inside a car parked at a traffic light, according to police.

Police responded to the intersection of Bristol Ferry and West Main roads shortly before 5 a.m. on May 30 after receiving a report of a white sedan parked at the traffic light for multiple cycles.

When an officer arrived, he found Dominique L. Gomes, 27, of 127 Cottage St., New Bedford, and two passengers inside. They were unconscious and unresponsive to his repeated banging on the car window, police said.

After two more officers responded to the scene, all three occupants woke up but were “extremely dazed,” police said. Ms. Gomes continuously nodded in and out of sleep, had trouble walking and her speech was not understandable, police said.

Here are some more highlights from the Portsmouth Police reports from over the past week:

Tuesday, May 30

Craig M Mulvey, 36, of 18 Maple Ave., Middletown, was charged shortly before 1 a.m. with driving while intoxicated (first offense) and refusal to submit to a chemical test. He was pulled over on West Main Road for speeding and leaving the lane of travel, according to police.

Michael L. Mota, 35, of 725 Second St., Apt. 2, Fall River, was charged with operating with a suspended or revoked license shortly after 5 p.m. Police said they stopped Mr. Mota on Turnpike Avenue because he was not wearing a seatbelt and because his truck had a large crack in the windshield.

Thursday, June 1

Timothy L. Haslam, 58, of 2 North Drive, was charged shortly before 10 p.m. with disorderly conduct (fighting/tumultuous behavior). Police said Mr. Haslam tried to enter a Botelho Drive home and yelled curses and threats at a man who lived there. Police said they later found Mr. Haslam walking along Dawn Marie Drive.

Saturday, June 3

Justin W. Correiro, 42, of 700 Shore Drive, Apt. 504, Fall River, was charged with driving while intoxicated (first offense) just after 2 a.m. Police said they stopped Mr. Correiro on Route 24 North at Cedar Island for speeding and leaving the lane of travel.

Sunday, June 4

Kevin R. Taylor, 27, of 44 Rosegarden St., Warwick, was arrested at 11:22 a.m. on a warrant issued by Pawtucket Police for an assault charge. Mr. Taylor was a passenger in a car pulled over for speeding on Route 24 South at Turnpike Avenue.

Tammy J. McConnell, 50, of 3 Chases Lane, Middletown, was charged at 2:41 a.m. with driving while intoxicated (first offense) after being stopped for speeding in the area of Route 24 North and Hummock Avenue. Police said they clocked Ms. McConnell traveling 95 mph in a 50 mph zone.
