Portsmouth Police: Man caught on tape damaging mailbox

Posted

PORTSMOUTH — Here are some highlights from the Portsmouth Police reports from over the past.

Monday, May 30

John J. Molloy, 63, of 107 Birchwood Drive, was charged with domestic assault at 10:22 p.m. Another man claimed Mr. Molloy had poked him with a long piece of wooden molding and also elbowed him in the chest and neck, according to police.

Kelly D. Richardson, 34, of 508 Turnpike Ave., was charged at 2:07 a.m. with domestic assault, simple assault and resisting arrest. During an argument at her home, police said Ms. Richardson threw a glass candle at a man, which broke and caused a cut to his left ankle. When police attempted to speak with Ms. Richardson, another man — her roommate, David L. Ferro, 48 — demanded they leave the house and aggressively pushed an officer against the front door, according to police. Police used a taser on him until he finally sat still, but he continued to yell at officers, police said. Mr. Ferro was charged with obstructing an officer in execution of duty, simple assault and resisting arrest. When police questioned Ms. Richardson, she pushed an officer and struck him in the back, police said. She was finally detained upstairs but then went limp and refused to walk, forcing police to carry her down the stairs, according to police.

Tuesday, May 31

William T. Sinnott, 77, of 6 Early St., was charged with domestic assault in connection to a complaint first made to police on May 26. Police said he had grabbed the arm of a Portsmouth woman and left a bruise.

Thursday, June 2

Joseph M. Muscarella, 53, of 133 Greenfield Ave., was charged with driving while intoxicated (first offense) and refusal to submit to a chemical test at 12:52 a.m. His car was pulled over on West Main Road near Connors Funeral Home because it left the lane of travel, according to police.

Friday, June 3

Paul M. Mongeau, 51, of 60 River Run Road, Middletown, was charged shortly before 1 a.m. with driving while intoxicated (first offense) and refusal to submit to a chemical test. Police stopped his car on East Main Road near St. Mary’s Church because it had a broken rear license plate light, police said.

James. T. Jacobson, 35, of 11 Nickerson St., Plymouth, Mass, was picked up on a District Court bench warrant around 6:30 p.m. Police stopped the vehicle Mr. Jacobson was driving on Route 24 southbound near the Montaup Golf Club because he was not wearing a seatbelt.

Saturday, June 4

Matthew A. Dorego, 30, of 40 Lathrop St., South Hadley, Mass., was charged with burning without a permit, a town ordinance violation. Police responded to Teddy’s Beach at 4:17 p.m. for a report of a fire. Mr. Dorego was issued a summons to appear in Municipal Court. The small fire was extinguished at the scene.

Police investigated a report around 11:40 p.m. of two parties who were fishing but being loud and possibly causing a disturbance. When an officer arrived, he found that two new town ordinance signs at the entrance to the beach had been vandalized. An obscene phrase and a picture of a penis had been spray-painted on each sign, police said. The Department of Public Works was notified.

Sunday, June 5

A Portsmouth man was arrested after being caught on videotape removing a mailbox from in front of a home on May 21. Police charged Tristan R. Dawson, 19, of 113 Newport Harbor Drive, with vandalism with malicious injury to property. At 11 p.m. on May 21, police responded to a Lepes Road residence for a report of a damaged mailbox. When they arrived, the homeowner said just earlier, he had been awoken to the sound of a vehicle outside his home. When he went outside to investigate, he said his mailbox had been damaged and removed from his property. However, because it wasn’t the first time someone had vandalized his mailbox, the man had installed a surveillance camera in hopes of capturing the vandals. The tape revealed a small black pickup truck with a heavier set white male sitting in its bed, police said. In the video, the man lassoed a rope around the mailbox and the driver sped off, causing the pole to be snapped at its base and dragged down the roadway, police said. Police later spoke to the homeowner’s son, who identified Mr. Dawson as the man in the video. Police issued a warrant for Mr. Dawson’s arrest and on June 5 he turned himself in, police said.

Monday, June 6

Theresa L. Landers, 60, of 145 Old Second St., Apt 205E, Fall River, was arrested on a warrant for a forgery and counterfeiting charge out of Newport. Ms. Landers was a passenger in a car that was pulled over on Route 24 northbound at Freeborn Street at about 4 p.m. because it was speeding and following another vehicle too closely, police said.
