PORTSMOUTH — In separate incidents, two people were recently arrested after illegal weapons were found in their vehicles, according to police.

In the first incident, while on patrol in the area of Mason Avenue and Pine Street around 5:40 p.m. on Friday, March 1, officers stopped a vehicle after observing it running a stop sign and drift into the breakdown lane, according to police.

While speaking with the operator, Adam H. Davis, 42, of 12 Beacon Court, Newport, officers observed his eyes to be bloodshot, watery, and glassy, and his speech to be mumbled and slurred, police said. Davis also had uncontrollable body movements, sores on his face, burnt fingertips, and rapid speech, police said.

Davis failed a series of field sobriety tests, and during an inventory search of the vehicle officers found a police baton located in the crevasse of the driver’s seat, according to police.

Davis was charged with driving under the influence (DUI), first offense; and possession of an illegal weapon other than a firearm. He was also cited for refusal to submit to a chemical test, police said.

The second incident involved a vehicle being stopped on West Main Road at about 1:40 a.m. on Sunday, March 3 for equipment and moving violations, police said. A passenger, Diana Marlyn Farizo-Ferreira, 45, of 23 Homestead Ave., Acushnet, Mass., appeared to be intoxicated and did not possess a Rhode Island license to carry a firearm that was found adjacent to her, police said.

Farizo-Ferreira was charged with carrying a weapon while intoxicated, police said.

Here are some other recent arrests made by Portsmouth Police:

Shamiel Ahmad Perry, 29, of 201 Thurber’s Ave. Apt. 2, Providence, was arrested on an affidavit warrant after a vehicle in which she was a passenger was stopped on Burma Road around 1:25 a.m. because its rear registration plate lights were not working, police said. The warrant was out of Providence, and Perry was later transferred to the custody of police in that city.

Thursday, Feb. 29

Keyshawn R. Taylor, 28, of 1820 Highland Ave., Apt. 22, Fall River, was charged with two counts of larceny between $1,500 and $5,000; and forgery and counterfeiting in general. Police charged Taylor on a Superior Court bench warrant shortly before 9 p.m. after he was arrested in Massachusetts on unrelated charges and then extradited to Portsmouth Police via the Rhode Island Division of Sheriffs.

Kaitlin M. Carreiro, 24, of 184 Columbia St., Apt. 2, Fall River, was charged with DUI, first offense, following a motor vehicle accident on the Mt. Hope Bridge around 11 p.m. Carreiro was also cited for refusing to submit to a chemical test.

Tracey Andrew Douglas, 57, of 330 Smith St., New Bedford, Mass., was charged with driving after her license had been denied/revoked/suspended for certain violations, her first offense. Police pulled her over on West Main Road around 1:30 a.m. due to equipment and moving violations, police said.

Sunday, March 3

Donald Howard Burkhardt, 84, of 66 Mohawk Drive, was charged with shoplifting. He was arrested at his home around 10 a.m. on an active affidavit warrant issued earlier by police.
