PORTSMOUTH — The Portsmouth Patriots football team had no problem handling the winless Barrington Eagles Friday night, but it wasn’t enough to earn them a spot in the playoffs.
Portsmouth scored six touchdowns in the first half to roll to a 42-0 victory. However, the team needed Cranston West to beat East Providence in order to make the Division 1 playoffs. Unfortunately for the Patriots, the Townies won, 20-15.
Portsmouth scored on all of its first-half possessions and coach Ryan Moniz put in his younger players for the second half.
Senior running back Ryan MacDonald rushed for three of the touchdowns. Junior quarterback Sean Coyne ran 65 yards for a touchdown and also threw a TD pass to Matt Ramos. Senior Kyle Connell also ran for a touchdown.
The Patriots travel to Cranston Stadium for Cranston West’s Homecoming game at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14.
After that, the team hosts Middletown for its annual Thanksgiving Day game at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 26.
