Puddingstone Music Series hosts trio from Europe

Posted

The Puddingstone new music series continues this month with another live concert following January’s sold-out performance at Newport’s Old Colony House. Like the previous concerts, this performance will combine performing and non-performing arts in an approachable, intimate 19th century-style salon.

Music by master impressionist Maurice Ravel and his exceptional Trio for Violin, Piano, and Violoncello, as well as an array of exciting pieces from Darius Brubeck, Philip Glass, Ludwig van Beethoven, and a newly commissioned piece composed for the Fidelio Trio by Boston-based composer John McDonald, who will be present to introduce his music and meet with guests.

Award-winning painter Katie Swatland will share a collection of original pieces and speak to her painting technique and inspiration.

Katie Moorhead, one of Newport’s most beloved dancers, will delight the audience with her interpretation of the art presented with improvised dance during selected musical pieces throughout the evening.

Doors open at 7 p.m., followed by the performance at 7:30 p.m. The Gardiner's exquisite bar will be open for the evening for drinks purchases and complementary small bites will be served.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
