Dr. David W Blight, a Sterling Professor of History, Yale University, and director of The Gilder Lehrman Center for the Study of Slavery, Resistance, and Abolition, will present a keynote speech at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 26.
“American history is a deep river. (Current events) remind us that history is never finished, and we have to keep crossing over the river, with all the honesty and truth we can muster from the spirituals and the blues, from historical knowledge, and from our greatest storytellers and poets.”
In addition to discussing the importance of Frederick Douglass, Dr. Blight will also talk about the crucial roles libraries, museums, historians and teachers have in presenting full, inclusive, honest and accurate histories.
From 2 to 3 p.m., there will be a reception with refreshments inside Linden Place. At 3 p.m. Dr. Blight will deliver a keynote address inside the Linden Place ballroom. Tickets for the author reception and program are $55, $50 for members. Tickets for the keynote program are $35, $30 for Linden Place members.
