Raul S. Fernandes Jr., 71, Tiverton

Raul S. Fernandes Jr., 71, of Tiverton,  died unexpectedly after a long illness on Thursday, Nov. 3, 2016.

He was the beloved husband of Dorothy (Faria) Fernandes to whom he was married for 51 years.

Born on the 4th of July, he was the son of the late Hilda (Souza) and Raul Fernandes Sr.

He graduated form De LaSalle Academy and Roger Williams University.  A civil engineer, he was the owner and founder of Ferno services, Inc. of Rehoboth. A New England sports fan, he loved playing cards and fishing.  He was a Vietnam Army veteran and was the founding member of Mended Hearts, Chapter #191.

He was also a member of the Old Colony Railroad Museum and the Tiverton Sewer Commission.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, David Fernandes (wife Jill) of Warren, and his daughters, Lisa Evitts (husband Jeff) of Gurnee, Ill., Susan Love (husband Steve) of Swansea, Sharon Grindle (husband David) of Connecticut; along with grandchildren, William and Lydia Fernandes, Andrew Evitts, Chelsea, Steven and Chloe Love, Kaitlyn, Joseph, and Nicholas Grindle.  He also leaves his cat Abby.  In addition, he is survived by a brother, Michael Fernandes, and a sister, Judith Plamondon.  He was the brother-in-law of Norma Rose and leaves many nieces, nephews and godchildren.

Visitation Monday from 4-7 p.m. at the Pocasset Memorial Funeral Home, 462 Main Road, Tiverton.

His funeral Mass will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Theresa's Church, Tiverton.  Everyone is kindly asked to meet directly at the church.  Burial at Pocasset Hill.  Flowers are welcome or donations may be made to Mended Hearts Chapter 191, c/o Maria D'Alu 1818 Brayton Rd., Somerset, MA 02725.  www.almeida-pocasset,com for on line guestbook.
