Mr. Raymond J. Cabral, Sr., 86, of Beachmount Avenue, Bristol, died Saturday, Nov. 5, 2016 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Inpatient Center, Providence. He was the husband of the late Irene A. (Bruscato) Cabral, his wife of 65 years, who preceded him in death just this past September.

Born and raised in Warren, and a Bristol resident for 65 years, he was the son of the late James Cabral and the late Dorothy (Bettencourt) Cabral Manchester. He attended Warren and Bristol Schools. He served in the US Navy during the Korean War, aboard the destroyer James C. Owens. He was a supervisor for the Bristol County Water Authority in Warren, working for them for 38 years, retiring in 1992. He was the union president at Bristol County Water Authority for a number of years.

He was an avid deep sea fisherman and boater, taking part in the Tuna Tournament off the RI coast for a number of years. He was a member of the Bristol Rod & Gun Club and the Bristol County Lodge of Elks #1860, both in Bristol. He enjoyed skiing during the 1960s and 1970s with his family, skiing all over New England and upstate New York. He was a farm team baseball manager for a number of years with the Bristol “sports” team. He was a member of the support team for the Generations Alumni Drum and Bugle Corps for many years.

He is survived by a daughter, Deborah Brooks of Riverside; a son, Raymond J. Cabral, Jr. (Valerie) of West Greenwich; and a granddaughter, Amber Brooks of Westerly. He was preceded in death, in addition to his wife and parents, by two brothers, Francis and James Cabral, and two sisters, Dorothy Ebright and Adeline Betts.

Raymond’s family would like to thank the staff at Philip Hulitar Hospice for their compassionate care, especially Heidi and Stacy.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral ceremony Monday, Nov. 14, 2016 at 7 p.m. in the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood St., Bristol.
