Former Warren Town Manager Jan Reitsma will receive two months of severance pay and other payments, under the terms a separation agreement he signed with the town on Wednesday, Dec. 20.

Mr. Reitsma, who was hired as Warren’s interim town manager in 2015 and was later named Warren’s permanent town manager, left the town’s employ on Dec. 30 following a three-month review of his job performance by the Warren Town Council.

Under the terms of the agreement signed by both him and town council president Joseph DePasquale, Mr. Reitsma:
1. Will receive payment of compensation for all accrued leave he acquired during his time with the town;
2. Is eligible to receive pension benefits accrued during his time with the town, including his time served as interim manager;
3. Will receive two months of full pay in January and February;
4. and is eligible to apply for unemployment benefits.

In addition, the document stipulates that both parties agree “that they will not intentionally disparage or defame the other party in any respect or make any derogatory comments, written or oral, regarding the other party. Further, each party agrees to release the other from all other claims, demands, charges, liabilities, actions, contracts, debts, damages and suits.

Since Mr. Reitsma left the town’s employ, Warren Town Solicior Tony DeSisto has been serving as interim town manager. That is expected to change Tuesday evening with the council’s planned appointment of Warren Town Planner Kate Michaud as co-interim manager.

Mr. DeSisto said Monday that Warren has been advertising the manager vacancy both locally and with the International City/County Management Association (ICMA). Resumes have been coming in steadily, he said, and the town will continue to solicit them through the end of the month.
