Zoe Fournier Swire won the Bristol Warren Regional School District’s annual spelling bee Thursday night, successfully spelling “shrapnel” correctly to defend the title she first won last year as a sixth grader.
Zoe, a seventh grader at the Kickemuit Middle School, finished ahead of second place contestants Lee Ricci and her brother Evan Fournier Swire, who finished third. In all, 36 entrants and alternates from every school except Mt. Hope High School competed. Channel 12 TV personality Tim White was the moderator.
Zoe will go on to compete in the statewide Spelling Bee in Lincoln early next month.
