Richard F. Ferrara, 88, of Warren, died Sunday, January 27,2019 at RI Hospital.

He was the husband of the late Doris“ Dorrie” A. ( Medeiros) Ferrara, for over 65 years.

Richard was born in Bristol, a son of the late Nicholas and Emma May ( Metcalf) Ferrara.

He was a Commercial Fishing Captain for over 30 years.

Richard had also served in the US Navy, during the Korean War, and served on the Douglas H. Fox DD779, and also on the Meredith 890 .

A Warren resident for over 65 years coming from Bristol, He was a parishioner of St. Thomas the Apostle Church.

Mr. Ferrara, was a Tin Can Sailors, he was an avid reader, enjoyed traveling.

He worked on the Alaskan Pipeline for 4 years. He was also an avid sports fan, he liked all sports including the New England Patriots, boxing, hockey. Richard liked spending time on the ocean, and watching westerns. He liked spending time with his dogs Bonnie and Clyde.

He was the father of Richard A. and Nancy Ferrara of Warren, Nicholas and Jennifer Ferrara of Warren, Michael and Nicole Ferrara of Warren, Dorianne and John Souza of Riverside, and Rebecca and Thomas Gordon of Warren.

Richard was the sister of Priscilla Borenstein of East Providence.

Mr. Ferrara was the grandfather of 16, and the great grandfather of 13, and also survived by many nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Barbara Godek.

His funeral will be held Thursday January 21, 2019 at 8:30 am from Smith Funeral and Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 500 Metacom Avenue, Warren. Burial will follow in St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery, Vernon Street.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling hours are Wednesday from 4-8pm.
