Robert K. Leahy Sr., 82, Bristol

Veteran, loved New England sports

Robert K. Leahy Sr., 82, of Bristol and formerly of Warren, died Friday, March 10, 2017 at the Mount St. Rita Health Center in Cumberland. He was the husband of Jacqueline M. (Iervolino) Leahy.

Mr. Leahy was born in Warren, a son of the late Thomas and Marie (Lacroix) Leahy. He was a retail manager for the former First National Grocery Stores and also Globe Liquors.

A US Army veteran who served as a sergeant, he was a Bristol resident for more than 20 years, coming from Warren. He was a former parishioner of St. Alexander Church, played the Men’s Softball League and he loved baseball, especially the Boston Red Sox. He was also a sports fanatic who liked all the New England sports teams.

Mr. Leahy enjoyed spending time with his family.

Besides his wife, he leaves his son, Robert K. Leahy Jr. of Lincoln; and his daughters, Cheryl Bryan of Riverside and Cynthia “Cindy” Barnowski of Warren. Mr. Leahy was the brother of Veronica Phillips, Janet Greene, Margie Chace, Louise Mason, Gloria Chamberland, Ann Cornell, John Leahy and Michael Leahy. He was the grandfather of Michael Barnowski, James Boulanger Jr., Jennifer Barnowski, Jordon Leahy, Nathan Leahy and Jillian Leahy. He also leaves many nieces and nephews, and was the brother of the late Thomas Leahy, Raymond Leahy, Lorraine Francis, Catherine Broadhead and Virginia Condra.

Visiting hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 16, at Smith Funeral and Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
