Rosemarie M. (Costa) Simmons, 87, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 8, 2017, at home in Selma, N.C. She was the wife of the late Frederick Samuel Simmons Jr..
Rosemarie was born in Warren, RI on Nov. 9, 1929, the daughter of the late Frank and Dora ( Lessard) Costa. She enjoyed being a volunteer at the Warren Animal Shelter for more than 30 years. She was truly devoted to the welfare of abandoned animals. Rosemarie was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Mary of The Bay Parish, and she and her husband frequently volunteered at many church events. Rosemarie was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She spent the last four years living in Selma, coming from Warren. She was lovingly taken care of by her son Frederick and his wife Jessie, surrounded by her favorite pets and enjoying the warm sunshine.
Rosemarie is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Descoteaux and husband Alan of Tewksbury, MA; her son, Frederick Simmons III and wife Jessie of Selma, N.C. ; her son, Gregory Simmons and wife Becky of North Carolina; grandchildren Bryan, Michael, Tiana DuVall (husband Jordan), Tyler, Evan, Cheyenne, Arianna, Seth, Faith, Jacob, Eden, Braydon and Fallon; great-grandchildren Jack, Aiden, Millie and Hartley; her sister, Trudy Palazio and husband James of Bristol, RI, sister Mary Costa of Bristol, RI.; sisters-in-laws Janet Silvia and Claire Reynolds, both of Middletown, RI; and many nieces and nephews.
Rosemarie was the sister of the late Frank Costa Jr. and sister-in-law of the late Dolores Costa, George Silvia and Edward Reynolds.
Her funeral will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 15 from Smith Funeral and Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary of the Bay Church, 645 Main St., Warren. Burial will follow in St. Mary of the Bay Cemetery, Vernon Street, Warren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling hours are Friday from 4 to 7 p.m.
