Warren resident Louis Rego installed as president

Against a spectacular early summer backdrop of boats sailing up the Warren River, the Warren Barrington Rotary Club held its annual installation of officers last Tuesday night at the Wharf Tavern. And, for the third time in his long tenure with the club, Louis Rego was installed as president for 2017-18.

“It’s always been an honor serving this club,” said Mr. Rego, a Warren resident who has been very active with the group over the years in a variety of roles. “We have a great group of people here.”

Other club officers sworn in included president-elect Theresa Santoro of Bristol; secretary Timothy A. Pray of Bristol; treasurer Raymond Parker of Barrington; and Sergeant-at-arms Mary Moreira of Bristol. Installing officer was Rotary District 7950 assistant governor Lori DiPersio.

Directors include Mary Almeida, Robert Avila, Domenic Carbone, Roger Ellin, Angela Fedorcuk, Vincent Gasparro, John Leary, John Metaxas, Ismail Saltuk, and Tucker Wright.

Outlining some of his goals for the coming year, Mr. Rego highlighted Rotary’s mission of planting trees this year.

“Every Rotarian is going to be planting a tree this year,” he announced. “That’s this year’s theme in Rotary. That’s something we’re going to shoot for.”

He added, “We have planted trees in the past. There’s a lot that we can do. We will work with the tree commission in Warren and Barrington.”

At one point during the course of the program, out-going president Mary N. Almeida was presented a pin and plaque for her dedication and service to the club during the past year. She also praised Mr. Rego, and said he would once again lead by example.

“I know Lou will be an extraordinary president,” she said.

Mr. Rego is also dialing in on other important aspects for his club.

“We’ll be working on membership,” he explained, “We want to gain members. We’ll also have a lot of fun.”
