PORTSMOUTH — Runners young and old took over the streets of Common Fence Point Sunday morning for a good cause: raising money for the Portsmouth High School Music Boosters.

The 15th annual Common Fence Point 5 Mile Run & 3 Mile Fun Walk featured competitors from the East Bay and beyond — including one from Las Cruces, N.M., and another from Eagle River, Ark.

The race featured 16 tight corners and nice views of Mt. Hope Bay and the Sakonnet River. Afterwards, participants gathered for a post-race party with a raffle, DJ and refreshments.

The overall winner was Mike Fisher of Brighton, Mass., who clocked a time of 25 minutes, 57 seconds.

The top female finisher was Carolyn Heidenthal of Grafton, Mass., who came in 11th overall with a time of 35:44.

Portsmouth High School track coaches take note: Twelve-year-old James McCarron of Portsmouth took fourth place overall with a time of 29:35.

Here are how some other Portsmouth runners fared:

• Scott Wentzel, 20th place, 37:53

• Emilie Reuther, 38th place, 42:27

• Kerri Carlin, 41st place, 42:49

• Catherine Gervelis, 46th place, 44:12

• John Santillo, 53rd place, 45:37

• Francis Mullins, 55th place, 45:57

• John Fitzgerald, 56th place, 46:02
