Sally J. Rose, R.N., 79, Tiverton

Sally J. (Mersey) Rose, R.N., 79, of Tiverton, died Tuesday, March 20, 2018, in Rhode Island Hospital. She was the wife of Clement O. Rose Jr., to whom she had been married for 58 years. She was also the loving mother of David Rose of Tiverton and Mark Rose of Gloucester, Mass.; a brother, E. Leonard Mersey Jr. of Tiverton, and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Peter Mersey.

Born in Fall River, the daughter of the late Evelyn (Burkman) and E. Leonard Mersey Sr., she was a graduate of BMC Durfee High School and spent most her life in Tiverton. She was a graduate of Truesdale Hospital School of Nursing.

Sally was a Registered Nurse at the Catholic Memorial Home in Fall River for 30 years before her retirement in 1989. She had a passion for her career and a love for her patients and always advocated for quality health care.

She was a member of the Harvard Nurses Health Study for over 35 years. After retirement she owned and operated Victorian Boutique on S. Main St. in Fall River for several years. She enjoyed knitting, gardening, was an avid reader and a member of the Truesdale Nurses Alumnae.

One of her greatest pleasures was spending time with special people in her life, Karin Coulter and her three daughters Victoria, Ella (her godchild) and Meredith, Kathy Hook and her three children Andrew, Matthew (her godchild) and Emily.

Her funeral services were held Monday, March 26 under the care of the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place in Fall River. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her honor may be made to the Lucy Rose Nursing Scholarship Fund c/o Bristol Community College, 777 Elsbree St., Fall River, MA 02720. A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
