Schools' new finance director is happy to be in Barrington

Doug Fiore fills position previously held by Ron Tarro

Doug Fiore is in his third week as Barrington School Department’s new director of administration and finance. He has been making the rounds at the schools, meeting administrators, and getting the feel for the job that he inherited from former director of finance, Ron Tarro, who left to pursue other career opportunities. Mr. Fiore said he is focused on keeping the Barrington School Department on track financially.

Mr. Fiore recently sat down for an interview with the Barrington Times.

Growing up: “I grew up in Somerset (Mass.) and married my high school sweetheart Debbie. I went to University of Massachusetts-Amherst.”

Family: “We have two daughters, Emma is a computer systems engineering major at Amherst and Isabelle recently graduated from Framingham State with a degree in nutrition and wellness management. We have lived in Swansea (Mass.) for 25 years.”

Free time: “I love to run and tinker in the yard. I don’t cook so Debbie does that and I take care of the house.”

Lunch: “We like to go out to eat often. We just had a nice meal at Chomp in Warren.”

Volunteer: "I was on the Vestry at the Church of Our Savior in Somerset and head up the finance committee there.”

Corporate industry: “After college I was a CPA and I was an auditor for Textron. Before we had kids, I traveled for business. I have found that I prefer the public sector to the private industry and couldn’t be happier to be here in Barrington working on the school department team.”

Travel: “We like to take family trips and recently went to Hawaii with the girls. Debbie and I had gone there on our honeymoon. Four years ago, we took a family trip to Italy, that was incredible.”

On the job: “Barrington has a highly respected school system. I intend to keep those high standards and improve upon that by being fiscally responsible.”
