Seveney: I will be fully engaged on Navy divesture plans

Posted

For several years the Navy has been moving to divest some of their infrastructure and land holdings. They desire to transfer ownership of tank farms, Defense Highway and Stringham Road.

They are striving to reduce costs associated with road maintenance, electricity use, water and sewer services. This will impact Portsmouth businesses in Melville basin, West Main Road, and some of the abutting neighborhoods, specifically around Tank Farm 4 where the Navy plans to construct a solar energy facility.

The Navy, town officials, and the state are working closely to manage the issues, and make sure Portsmouth citizens are informed. I will remain fully engaged as the Navy’s plans mature, and work to ensure Portsmouth’s interests are protected. The Navy has made it clear that they value their standing as a good neighbor, and will work towards reasonable accommodation of the town’s concerns. More to follow as plans become better defined.
