Sgt. Luke Joseph Edward Carreiro, 26, United States Army, passed away while serving his country at  the Army Military Base in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, on Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015. He was the devoted husband of Michelle (Kirkland) Carreiro of Killeen, Texas.

Luke was born in Fall River, the son of Fernando E. and Marie P. (Pelletier) Carreiro of Westport. He graduated as a member of the National Honor Society from Westport High School. Class of 2007. He played on the soccer team as a goalkeeper while at Westport High.

Sgt. Carreiro  served his country during the Operation Iraqi Freedom War and was recently stationed at Fort Bragg. Luke cherished the time he spent with his family and friends, especially his daughter and his little sister. He enjoyed reading, riding his motorcycle with his dad and playing pool with his military buddies. Luke always had time to lend a hand, no matter what the circumstances, to help others.

Survivors besides his wife and his parents are a daughter, Mia Angela Rose Carreiro of Killeen, Tex.; a sister, Sydney J. Carreiro of Westport; a brother, Matthew A. Carreiro of Abbington, Mass.; paternal grandparents, Sidonio and Fernanda (Medeiros)  Carreiro of Westport, along with several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was the maternal grandson of the late John and Marguerite (Neve) Pelletier.

Calling Hours for Sgt. Carreiro will be held on Sunday, Dec.13, from 1-5 p.m. in the Hathaway Home for Funerals, 1813 Robeson Street, Fall River. His funeral Mass  with Military Honors will be held on Monday, Dec. 14, at 10 a.m. in Holy Trinity Church, 951 Stafford Road, Fall River. Following cremation Luke will be laid to rest in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
