EAST PROVIDENCE — The first snowfall of the 2018-19 season landed several inches on the ground and made for some tricky traveling for motorists throughout the state and in city.

According to unofficial totals compiled by National Weather Service, anywhere from 5.5 and 6.8 inches of snow fell in portions of East Providence overnight between Thursday, Nov. 15, and Friday, Nov. 16.

Snow began to fall in city at approximately 7 p.m. at the end of the afternoon rush and during the dinner hour when traffic was still relatively heavy.

The Rhode Island State Police reported troopers responded to 50 weather-related crashes between 6 p.m. Thursday and 6 a.m. Friday. No serious injuries were reported. Most of the accidents occurred between 7 and 9 p.m.

In city, East Providence Police were called to the scene of 15 snow-related accidents between 7 p.m. Thursday, the height of the storm, and 10 a.m. Friday morning, according to Patrol Division Captain Christopher Francesconi. In addition, officers locally responded to 12 spinouts and other incidents pertaining to the poor driving conditions.
