Snow is coming — help your neighbors!

To the editor:
Snow is coming. Not yet, but soon - I am sure. For some, snow is a welcome sight and brings great opportunity to careen down Burr’s Hill in a toboggan. But for many of our vulnerable Warren neighbors, snow and ice can pose a safety risk and unwanted confinement to their home. For our third year running, Volunteer Warren will be offering snow shoveling assistance to Warren residents who are disabled, veterans, seniors, or otherwise in need of help removing snow. Following each substantive snowfall we will dispatch our volunteers to households in need of clearing their front steps, walkways, and access to their cars. We are in need of volunteers who are willing and able to shovel and clear snow for their neighbors. Because snowfall is unpredictable and our volunteers’ availability is always changing, we are always in need of new shovelers. Please consider signing-up to serve at www.VolunteerWarren.org and look for our calls for snow shovelers during each storm on our Volunteer Warren Facebook page. If you know a Warren resident who would benefit from this service throughout the Winter 2019 season please email VolunteerWarren@gmail.com or call 401.903.2882. Do good. Start local.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
