EAST PROVIDENCE — The "Road to Williamsport" dream for local youngsters began Monday night, June 26, with the start of the Little League District 2 Major Baseball All Star Tournament.

In city, the combined  East Providence Central/Riverside Little League entry fell at home at the Forbes Street Complex to an impressive Pawtucket club, 10-0. (See accompanying photo gallery.)

On the road in Newport, Rumford suffered a narrow 4-3 defeat to the host oceansiders.

Both city squads immediately return to action in elimination round games Tuesday, June 27.

EP/Riverside travels to the Aquidneck School to face Middletown, which dropped a 12-1 decision to Bristol-Warren,  while Rumford is home at the Rock Complex off Ferris Avenue to face Barrington, which  fell to Portsmouth 4-3. First pitch for both contests is 5:45 p.m.
