St. Andrew’s School renovates academic center

St. Andrew’s School celebrated the completion of the renovation of the Owing Stone Academic Center with a recent special ribbon cutting event.

The project included a renovation of the Rooke Library, Happy White Room, common areas, an entryway highlighting the school’s signature programs, and significant systems and infrastructure improvements.

“The much-needed modernization and a new library infrastructure have already transformed the environment for student inquiry, collaboration, and research that matches the academic learning demanded by the International Baccalaureate,” stated a press release from the school.

Head of School David Tinagero added: “As the heart of the school, these new spaces can now provide the best learning experiences and environment to support the needs and, ultimately, the success of our students.”

The renovations were part of the second phase of capital improvements of the Chapin Campaign, made possible with the generosity of campaign donors and the support of St. Andrew’s Board of Trustees, including John Harker and Ben White ‘08, Chapin Campaign co-chairs, and Audrey Kupchan, M.D. and Mark Ross, development committee chairs.

“The St. Andrew’s community wants to extend a special appreciation and recognition to the White Family, to Dotty McCulloch, and to all the campaign donors who made this project possible in support of student learning,” Harker said.

The school collaborated with InSite Engineering Services, Site Specific, and Vision 3 Architects for the design and renovation. The companies worked closely with the St. Andrew’s facilities committee, which was chaired by trustee Peter Holden.

Before the ribbon cutting, the school honored the 17 seniors who will be sitting for International Baccalaureate exams this spring, 13 who are full diploma candidates and four who are course candidates.

“The pursuit of this pathway requires an immense amount of dedication, focus, persistence, and exceptional time management skills. We are incredibly proud of these students,” said Assistant Head of School for Academics Alexandra McMullen.
