Sunset Walk at Historic Juniper Hill Cemetery

Posted by Annie

Join Chris Fletcher, arborist and cemetery historian, for a Sunset Walk at historic Juniper Hill Cemetery. This is an opportunity to walk the winding lanes of this romantically beautiful cemetery, a prime example of the "rural" cemetery movement created in the mid 1800s. And while walking and listening to the stories about the cemetery's inhabitants, participants will also be learning about the unique trees and plants throughout. With clear weather, this location on a hill facing west over to the Bristol Harbor and beyond will provide amazing sunset views. Sunset is at 6:06 p.m. so be sure to arrive by 5:30 p.m. Meet at the stone entrance gate at 24 Sherry Avenue.

$10 each and $5 for members of the Bristol Historical & Preservation Society as well as for members of the Rhode Island Wild Plant Society. Children 12 and under are free and should be accompanied by an adult. Open to the public. Refreshments.

Lanterns will be available although participants might also bring their own flashlights.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
