Teenager arrested in connection to Market Street homicide

Posted

The Warren Police Department reported on Monday morning that a 17-year-old juvenile, from Bristol, had been arrested in connection to an incident that occurred last August on Market Street that left 54-year-old Warren resident Richard Raymond dead.

The incident occurred on Aug. 26, 2021 and involved a violent scene where police responded to multiple calls and found two adult males and a juvenile in the area of Market Street. The 54-year-old, Raymond, was observed to be on the ground and had severe injuries to his head that were apparently caused by a bat. Police said that a knife was recovered at the scene as well. Raymond died in at Rhode Island Hospital as a result of his injuries on Sept. 12.

At 6:20 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 11, Warren and Bristol Police officers served a warrant to the 17-year-old at a residence in Bristol. The teenager was charged with second degree murder, felony assault and/or battery and disorderly conduct. They were then transported to court for their arraignment.

Raymond’s family said at a vigil held in his honor on Oct. 12 that the incident occurred after he had approached a man on Market Street who owed him money for a job he had done. The situation escalated and, eventually, witnesses described the teenager approaching and hitting Raymond in the head with a bat.

The investigation was turned over to the Attorney General’s office, and Warren Police said that there would be no further information released due to the age of the alleged offender.
