How to find and create beauty in our lives will come to light at the Bosworth Lecture Series on Thursday, Jan. 10 at 7 p.m. at the Rogers Free Library. The event is free and open to the public.
In a presentation titled Aesthetics: The Art of Living, local photographer and RWU professor Stephan Brigidi will explain our innate human nature to seek beauty in our lives in the things that surround us...by sight, sound and touch.
"This is the art of life itself," Mr Brigidi said, "and it is available on multiple levels. "To live a fulfilling and creative life is what we all desire and deserve." He will share artwork, photography, painting and other projects from his books.
Among local examples of how we seek beauty in life, Mr Brigidi will model the 1997 effort to save Silver Creek and create a public space, now Mrs. Perry's Garden on Hope St. Also, the 2006 redesign of the Bristol County Water Authority on Bradford St. and the evolution of Harbor Point residence on Poppasquash Rd.
Mr. Brigidi was born in Providence. He received his BA from Providence College and his MFA at RI School of Design, a Fulbright-Hays Fellowship to Italy and a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts. He has also received fellowships from the RI State Council on the Arts. His works are represented in more than thirty museum collections in the US and Europe.
Mr. Brigidi has published five books of his photography. He is currently working on a book called Rome 1970’s to be released this spring.
He has taught photography, painting and aesthetics at the Universities of Hawaii and Connecticut, RI College and RI School of Design, and aesthetics at Roger Williams University for the past eight years. He and his wife Julie, also a photographer, make their home and studio in Bristol.
