Thomas Sardinha Sr. passed away on Jan. 3, 2019 at the age of 80. He was the beloved husband of Jeanne (Audet) Sardinha for 58 years. He was the son of the late Antonio and Rita (Camara) Sardinha. He leaves behind three children; Thomas Jr., Michael, and Kathy as well as his five grandchildren, Melanie, Ethan, Kelsey, Alexis and Nicholas. 

 He served four years in the US Marine Corps as a jet engine mechanic and before his retirement, he worked at the Newport Naval Base in the Contract Carpenter Office as a respected Planner and Estimator. 

 Thomas was a communicant of St. Dominic’s in Swansea, where his Christian Burial Mass will be held on Saturday, January 19th at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to either Save the Children or your local SPCA.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
