Varsity and Junior Varsity teams selected as Grand Champions at state competition

Posted

The Barrington Pop Warner Varsity, Junior Varsity and Junior Pee Wee cheer teams will be competing for a regional title this weekend at the Tsongas Arena in Lowell, Mass.

The three Barrington teams earned invitations to the regionals with strong performances at the RISMA state competition on Oct. 20 at the Providence Career and Technical Academy.

The Junior Pee Wee team finished third in the state, while Barrington's Junior Varsity and Varsity teams each won first place. With the victories, those teams were named Grand Champions (scoring the highest points in their age divisions).

It's been a busy fall season for the Barrington Pop Warner cheer teams, as the Eagles also hosted a large Fun Comp on Oct. 7 at Barrington High School. Thirty-nine teams from 10 Pop Warner associations were present at the Fun Comp. In total, there were 600 athletes and more than 1,000 people at the event.

"All Barrington teams had an excellent showing," wrote Barrington Pop Warner Cheer Coordinator Susan Moran. "And two of the three took first place in their respective divisions - our JV and Varsity teams."

Barrington's Varsity cheer team tallied the highest score of the day for any team at the Fun Comp.
