Tiverton High announces 2018 Athletics Hall of Fame inductees

Nine athletes, one team, and two THS sports supporters will be inducted into the Tiverton High School Athletics Hall of Fame at next months sixth annual ceremony.

The induction ceremonies will be held on Thursday, October 18, at McGovern’s Restaurant on Shove Street. A social hour will start at 5:15 p.m., followed by the induction ceremony.

Athletes to be inducted are

• Richard “Dickie” Smith, 1975, (football, basketball, baseball)

• Lynn (Motta) Nicholas, 1979, (field hockey, basketball, softball)

• Scott Towers ,1980, (soccer, basketball, baseball)

• Melanie (Sumner) Garrant, 1981, (field hockey, basketball, softball)

• Robert Dennis, 1992, (football)

• Josh Del Deo, 1994, (soccer, basketbal, tennis, baseball)

• Audrey Sanford, 1995, (softball, field hockey)

• Stacy Santos, 2000, (soccer, basketball, volleyball)

• Ben Bergandy, 2011, (basketball, lacrosse\, soccer)

• The 2000 Field Hockey state championship team,

• Boosters Club members Frank and Lorraine Raposa.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
