Jacob Cookinham of Tiverton won first place in the 2018 Scotts MLB Pitch Hit & Run Boston Red Sox Team Championship at Fenway Park on June 23.

More than 650,000 youngsters age 7 to 14 participated nationally in the Pitch Hit & Run competition in softball and baseball.
The kids compete in age groups of 7 and 8, 9 and 10, 11 and 12, and 13 and 14 at the local level.Then, those with the top scores move on to sectionals. In Rhode Island, the sectionals took place at McCoy Stadium.

The top three competitors’ scores are then compared to those of other sectionals within their region. Then only the top three qualifiers move on to the regional championship at the affiliated MLB stadium.
Jacob, of the 13 and 14 age group, won both the local level and sectionals and moved on to the regional championship, where

he competed against other New England qualifiers. He won first place at the Boston Red Sox Team Championship at Fenway Park and was honored on the field during the pre-game ceremony for the Mariners and Red Sox game.

This is the first time a Tiverton player of the Tiverton Little League won the Pitch Hit & Run Boston Red Sox Team Championship.
