Tiverton opened its girls tennis season with a 7-0 home loss against a strong East Providence squad Thursday.
The matches themselves were less lopsided as several went three sets and were settled by close scores.
At first singles, Tiverton’s Monique Gwinn lost the first set 6-4, bounced back to win the second set 6-2 but was beaten 6-4 in the deciding third set by EP’s Tess Amore.
Alexandra Roussin lost by a similar three set score at second singles.
Losing in two sets each were Tiverton third singles Alexis DeSousa (6-3, 6-2, and fourth singles Sydney Pelletier (6-1, 6-4).
Tiverton’s first doubles team of Skylar Lewis and Emily McGrady won their first set 6-3 before dropping the second and third sets.
Second doubles duo Caitlin Venancio and Lyndsey Monast (6-1, 6-0) and third doubles Suzanne Buckley and Abigail Forcier (6-2, 7-5) also went down to defeat.
The match left Tiverton 0-1 while East Providence starts at 1-0.
