Aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman, serving with the US 5th Fleet in the Arabian Gulf, recognized Petty Officer 2nd Class Jared R. Sylvia of Tiverton as the ship’s Warrior of the Day for March 28, 2016. He is seen here (left) receiving the award from Capt. Ryan B. Scholl on the bridge of aircraft carrier. As an assistant work center supervisor, he was selected for “flawlessly executing … in tandem with a team of experts” efforts “to perform a complex overhaul” of one of the Truman’s two nuclear reactors. The project “ensured timely recovery of number one reactor which allowed Truman to continue to carry out its mission.” Each of the reactors has more than 1,000 valves that require constant maintenance. Petty Officer Sylvia is 2009 graduate of Tiverton High School and has been serving in the Navy for over four years. (U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist Seaman Adelola O. Tinubu.)
