Tiverton U14 girls win Foxboro Cup Tournament

The Tiverton Youth Soccer Under 14 Girls were victorious in the recent Foxboro Cup Memorial Day Soccer Tournament.

The Tiverton girls started quickly in their first Round Robin game in a tightly played match against the Attleboro Youth Soccer Sparks. Samantha Soares scored in the second minute (2’) of play on a break from the left side. The Sparks responded (22’) in the first half for a 1-1 tie that went final despite Tiverton holding a decided advantage in play by striking the crossbar and goalposts but failing to find the net again.

In the second game of the day, Tiverton started fast and poured it on to win 6-0 over the North Storm. In that game Soares (1’), Chloe Katz (6’), Samantha Penacho (20’), Sydney Silvia (23’), Amber Lattuca (30’) and Maisie McQueen (39’) all scored.

In their final game of Round Robin play, Tiverton defeated the Attleboro Suns 3-1 in a game in which Kayana Urrego had two goals (15’, 26’) and Mariah Ramos (16’) had one.

Their Round Robin performance advanced Tiverton to the semifinal match against undefeated WFC. In the most competitive game of the tournament, Tiverton emerged victorious by a 3-2 score. Soares (3’) opened the scoring for Tiverton and Ramos followed up with a goal (8’) to put Tiverton up 2-0 but WFC responded with two goals to tie Tiverton early in the second half. With seven minutes to play, Urrego lofted a ball from 20 yards over the WFC keeper for the eventual game winner.

In the final of the tournament, Tiverton again faced the Attleboro Suns and demonstrated that their victory a day earlier was no fluke as the team went on to win the Championship 6-1 with Kayana Urrego scoring three goals (4’, 20’, 22’) to win the Golden Boot as high scorer for the U14 girls division. Also scoring for Tiverton were Soares (35’), Brenna Nobrega (38’) and Marisa Cayer (40’).

The Tiverton girls’ defense was stellar throughout the tournament led by McQueen, Kayley Nagle, Chana Urrego, Cede Rashleigh-McNally, Lattuca and Renee Barrett, winner of the Golden Glove as best goalie in the division. For the offense, Urrego and Soares led the way with able assistance from Ramos, Mikayla Esteves, Penacho, Mikayla Andrews, Katz and Silvia.
