TIVERTON — As the town readies for a second round of Town Council hearings on the Tiverton Glen project next week, a flurry of paperwork is descending upon Town Hall, and plans appear underway to encourage attendance at the hearing.

The hearing will be held in the Tiverton High School auditorium beginning at 7 p.m. on Monday, July 20. It is a continuation of the hearing that began July 7 in the same venue.

Carpionato Development Group, which had submitted proposed amendments to the town zoning ordinance at the last minute (on July 1) prior to the July 7 hearing, filed yet another set of zoning amendments with the town clerk on July 7 — the same day the hearing was set to start, and too late for that evening's agenda.

The latest amendments, like the earlier, are undated and un-numbered.

This Wednesday, July 15, at 7 p.m., Joe Pierik, a Carpionato executive much-involved in the Tiverton Glen project, will be speaking to the Condominium Association of the Villages at Mount Hope Bay.

Lee Hoyer, the association's president, said Mr. Pierik called and asked if he could talk with the group. Each occupied unit in the Villages is entitled to up to two members in the association. Mr. Hoyer said 166 units are occupied.

Meanwhile, Town Clerk Nancy Mello says she has about an inch's-worth of documents and papers she says has flooded into town hall in the last week.

"A lot of letters and e-mails are coming in now. I'm getting them daily," she said. They include the petition carrying signatures of 1,500 citizens opposing the Tiverton Glen project.

Among the letters to the Town Council is one dated July 7 from Planning Board Chairman Stephen Hughes.

"This letter is in response to the amendments presented to you by the applicant for the Tiverton Glen project," Mr. Hughes writes.

"These comments are mine," he said, "although I believe the board members would feel the same way."

"We spent many hours in developing the specifics for this project to get to the point where a positive recommendation was possible. The zoning amendments that are being requested by the applicant would change things dramatically. We, as a board, covered almost all if not all of the points that you are being asked to consider. Please be mindful of the time and effort invested in this project by the Planning Board."
