Top seed Tiverton girls roar back after the half
TIVERTON — After enjoying a preliminary round Division III playoff bye, the top seed Tiverton girls (16-1) gave their home court fans a scare as they got off to a slow quarterfinal start Tuesday. The Tigers trailed 22-18 at halftime to eighth seeded Blackstone Valley Prep (9-9).
It turns out there was little reason for concern as the Tigers regrouped after the break, fighting back for a ten-point 44-34 victory. Tiverton’s pressing defense made the difference as Blackstone managed only a dozen points in the second half.
Tiverton’s Mariah Ramos led all scorers with 20 points while Aja Caldwell 10, eight of them in the second half.
Also scoring for Tiverton were Jillian DaSilva with 6 points, Jaimi Vaillancourt with 4, Mikayla Andrews with 3, and Rachel Pare with 1.
Marceline Marchand scored 11 and Simone Barros 10 for Blackstone Valley.
Tiverton next plays fourth-seeded North Providence Thursday, Feb. 22, at 5:30 p.m. at St. Mary Bay View Academy in East Providence.
