In response to your editorial Good for Tourister good for Warren. After reading the article it is assumed that whats in print is relatively accurate to what Warren is to expecting to occur over the next few years. I can't believe that anyone that reads this would think that this deal is not only one sided but beneficial to just the developer in the long run and really not that good for Warren. The offer of a three year tax abatement that's equivalent to a $1,0500,000. deal in uncollected income for Warren. Are we as taxpayers supposed to believe that when the developers purchased this property they were not aware of the sewer issue that existed with the previous developer? I find it hard to believe that anyone that makes a large real estate purchase of this magnitude didn't pay attention to the not so appealing aspects of the property. So with that being said how did Warren think that we as a community allow for a deal that basically gives the shaft to the taxpayers. The sewer infrastructure in Warren has been in damage control ever since the demise of the Sewer Commission, Our responsibilities to maintain our sewer,water and streets should be an ongoing process, while this particular deal does nothing but place a fix on one aspect of a system that has issues through out Warren, the tax relief benefits only one (The Developer)!
The developer would have had to do something regardless if Warren interjected into the issue or not, the developer was all together aware of the sewer issue that existed long before the property was purchased, and like a good used car salesman sold a bill of goods to the officials of Warren hook-line and sinker. and Warren fell for it. Long after this building is filled with potential tenants and reaping the fruits of a three year tax break, Warrens Police,Fire & EMS along with the Towns Highway Dept. will still be the same size dealing with the associated troubles that come with an increase in population that comes with this project. They are successful developers for one reason, they make deals that "they" profit from. When was the last time the Town gave a Warren business or residents some form of relief from the ever increasing costs of everyday living here in Warren? Simply the answer is they don't! They never have and never will, but it's rather evident this town would sell it's soul to fill a vacant space because of the evident pressure from previous bad decisions. If Warren would just learn to maintain it's infrastructure instead of always just putting out fires, this deal never would have been even considered. This project doesn't help the ever looming costs of the mandated sewer plant upgrades that Warren still has to pay for. Warren loses income for three years while the developer gains, meanwhile our bills to maintain infrastructure still exist. I'm sure the the taxpayers in Warren will agree over the next few years that this was nothing but a bad decision overall when you consider the last developer didn't ask us for anything. Time will tell.
