Traffic advisory issued for Mt. Hope Bridge run on Saturday

Posted

BRISTOL/PORTSMOUTH — There will be a partial closure of the Mt. Hope bridge Saturday morning, Aug. 12, to accommodate the inaugural Century 21 Topsail Realty Mount Hope 5K.

“Due to the race there will be a partial closure of the Mt. Hope Bridge,” the R.I. Turnpike and Bridge Authority (RITBA) stated in a press release today. “Starting at 7:30 a.m., for approximately 30 minutes, the northbound lane of the Mt. Hope Bridge will be closed.”

The event is being hosted by the R.I. Turnpike and Bridge Authority Foundation and “will provide runners and walkers the unique opportunity of crossing Mt. Hope Bay by foot,” according to the release.

“The race is expected to have 850 participants and 100 percent of net proceeds will benefit the Bristol Rotary and their partner charities. A police detail will be on premise to alternate travel utilizing a single lane. This alternating pattern will cause delays until around 8 a.m.,” RITBA said.

Early morning motorists in the Bristol and Portsmouth area should be prepared for slight delays traveling over the bridge on Saturday starting at 7:30 a.m. RITBA is asking motorists to plan commutes accordingly; expect delays and allow extra travel time.
