To the editor:

Well, there’s no doubt about it now. If you look up you will see that the tree tops look softer and somehow bigger, however the swamp maples have jumped the gun and their little red buds are already bursting open.

Our winter birds have found the key to their spring “look at me” songs, and in the swampy areas the crepuscular woodcocks are doing their amazing mating dance.

Two of our local turkey tribe can be seen from time to time totally filling up our little road as they display their huge tails in a show of “I am bigger than you are!” Of course if they stay in the road and not in your yard that is fine but beware if you have a parked car as they will either fly up on top and make a crappy mess or peck at their reflection making permanent dents.

Can you believe that this is the week that you put out the welcome mat for the hummingbirds? When you see them and the little white egrets you will surely know that winter is over.
