Turas performing a special St. Patrick’s Day Eve concert

Posted

The Jane Pickens Theater will be hosting a performance by Turas this Saturday, March 16, in a St. Patrick’s Day Eve concert that will feature both traditional Irish and Celtic music as well as modern compositions.

Turas – which means “journey” in Gaelic – is made up of four singers and many instruments, including Bob Drouin, cofounder of the Celtic band Pendragon, on fiddle flute and guitar; Josh Kane on the flute and whistle; Rob McConeghy on piano and guitar; and Dean Robinson on bodhran, bones, djembe, and whistle.

“Just as the Jane Pickens is synonymous with Newport, so too is St. Patrick’s Day. We’re proud to welcome back Turas band for a special live performance to get the community in the holiday spirit,” said Alex Whitney, general manager at the theater.

The performance will start at 5:30 p.m. and consist of two, 45-minute sets with a 15-minute intermission. Tickets can be purchased at the event center or online for $22. The JPT features a full concession stand for patrons to enjoy, including Guinness for this special event. Click here for tickets and more information.
