PORTSMOUTH — Bishop Hendricken proved Friday night why they’re five-time defending Rhode Island Super Bowl champions.

Taking advantage of four Patriots turnovers, the Hawks dominated in a 35-7 rout at Portsmouth High School.

Hendricken intercepted three passes and stole another possession on a fumble.

Adding insult to injury, PHS senior Rashad Rockett injured his left leg while trying to block an extra point and was transported to the hospital.

The Patriots managed to make it 14-7 in the third quarter after quarterback John Coyne found Matt Clark in the end zone, but Portsmouth never scored again.

Portsmouth is now 1-1 in Division 1 and 3-1 overall.

The Patriots’ next game is at home against East Providence on Friday, Oct. 2. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
