This year's NCAA Division I Indoor Track Championship will feature two former Barrington High School athletes.
Adam Kelly, a senior at Princeton University, and Bobby Colantonio, a freshman at the University of Alabama, finished in the top 16 in the men's weight throw for NCAA Division I schools.
Kelly will be seeded seventh at nationals with a top distance of 22.53 meters this year, while Colantonio is 16th with a top distance of 21.63 meters.
The field of 16 standout student-athletes will square off this weekend at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala.
Colantonio and Kelly dominated the weight and hammer throw events in Rhode Island during their high school careers.
Both Kelly and Colantonio were named All-Americans after winning the weight throw event at New Balance National Scholastic Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Kelly honored
Kelly has been selected as the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) Indoor Mid-Atlantic Regional Field Athlete of the Year.
Kelly won his second straight Ivy League Heps indoor weight throw title (22.12m) recently. In his four years, he has never finished lower than second place. He was also picked as the Ivy Heps Most Outstanding Male Field Performer as Princeton won its fifth straight indoor Heps crown.
Colantonio comeback
A national champion weight thrower in high school, Colantonio accepted a scholarship offer from the University of Alabama in 2016, but was diagnosed with cancer before he began his college throwing career.
Colantonio battled back and defeated cancer, and this year returned to competitive track and field. This season he became the number one ranked freshman weight thrower in college track and field and is the only freshman to qualify for the NCAA Division I Indoor Track Championship.
